Who is a VoIP trunk for?

A SIP trunk is useful if you already have — or want to set up — your own PBX and just need a cheap connection to the phone network.

  • IT admins configuring a SIP trunk for multiple lines
  • Hobbyists and self-builders with a Raspberry Pi PBX or home lab
  • Businesses with a 3CX or Yeastar PBX looking to replace their current trunk

Configuration freedom

CheapConnect doesn't restrict you. You choose:

  • Which codec you use (including G.722 for HD audio)
  • Whether you link a fixed CheapConnect number to the trunk
  • Which CLI (caller ID) you send with outgoing calls
  • How many simultaneous connections you set up

There's no limit on the number of simultaneous calls through the trunk. You pay per second for what you actually call.

VoIP trunk call costs

No subscription, no connection fee. You only pay for the calls you make, billed per second. Prices include VAT.

Netherlands — landline € 0.0238 per minute

Billed per second — not per minute. A 35-second call costs you 35 seconds, not a full minute. With many calls a day, that adds up noticeably.

No connection fee — many VoIP providers charge €0.02 to €0.10 per call, on top of the call costs. At CheapConnect the counter starts at zero: you only pay for the seconds you actually call.

The math: 100 calls of 3 minutes to a Dutch landline

CheapConnect (no connection fee) 100 × 3 min × €0.0238 = €7.14
Competitor with €0.05 connection fee €7.14 + (100 × €0.05) = €12.14
Savings with CheapConnect €5.00

At 500 calls a month, the savings add up to €25.00 per month — purely from having no connection fee.

Frequently asked questions about the VoIP trunk

Do I need my own phone number?

No. The trunk is primarily for outgoing calls. You can call without having an incoming number at CheapConnect. Want to be reachable too? Then optionally link a CheapConnect number to the trunk.

Does the trunk work with my Asterisk/FreePBX setup?

Yes. The trunk is a standard SIP trunk on port 5060 (UDP). Any PBX that supports SIP credentials can connect to it. That includes 3CX, Yeastar, Sangoma and similar systems.

Can I send my own caller ID (CLI)?

Yes. You can send your own caller ID on outgoing calls, as long as it's a valid number that belongs to you. You configure this via the CheapConnect portal.

How many simultaneous calls can I make?

There's no limit. You can make multiple simultaneous calls through the trunk. Each connection is billed separately, per second.

Can I combine the trunk with a Prepaid VoIP account?

Yes. You can have both a Prepaid VoIP account and a trunk with CheapConnect. They run on the same balance. That way you use the trunk for your PBX and the VoIP account for direct calls via a softphone or IP phone.

How do I create a trunk account?

Register for free via the button below. In the portal, you create a trunk account under your existing account. SIP credentials are available immediately after setup.
